Venue Detail

A milonga is a tango dance party. It can also be a music genre or a specific dance, but thats not what this event is about. There will be an intro class starting at 19:00 before the milonga. https://vitalia.sola.day/event/detail/3320

There will be free drinks (wine, water etc), some light snacks, tango music. You can come to dance, but also just to sit, socialise and watch people dancing.

Tandas and Cortinas: A batch of four songs of tango music is called a tanda. Every two tandas are interrupted by a cortina which is a short song of a completely different style (45-90s).

Milonga dance rules / How to ask someone to dance?

Usually during a cortina or after the tanda has started you

  1. You look through the room trying to make eye contact with a partner that you would like to dance with and both nod to signal interest.

  2. One (usually the male) asks the other if she wants to dance (which you already agreed upon by the nod.

  3. You dance till the end of the tanda

  4. Once the tanda has ended and the cortina starts you thank each other and take a break or look for a new partner to dance.
